VIRGINIA – the Mecklenburg County planning Commission has given their approval for Sleepy Hollow Studios, a new tattoo parlor, to open in Bracey. By a unanimous vote, the group voted to recommend that the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors okay the new business.
Speaking before the commission at their March meeting on Thursday night, Mary Robinson, one of the owners of the new business, explained that she and her husband Kevin had located to the area after operating a successful business in Potsdam, N.Y. Robinson told the group that when she had contacted the Commissioner of the Revenue in June to inquire about requirements for opening the business she had been told that all the couple had to do was “rent a building.” the couple later found out, she said, that there was more involved in the process.
“We’ve been here since January and haven’t been able to make a living,” said Robinson.
Robinson presented a letter from Potsdam, N.Y., describing the business and the couple’s standing in the community as well as her nursing license. Assuring the Commission that the business would be operated under the highest standards she also presented a petition signed by 146 area residents supporting the couple’s efforts to establish their business in the community.
Approximately half a dozen citizens also appeared before the planning Commission in support of the couple and their business.
