How many people do you think there are in the world with tribal tattoos, how many of those people probably haven’t got a clue what they mean? my guess for both answers would be a lot. So what makes people get a tribal tattoo without knowing what it means, is it just a case of copying their friends, something they saw on television or just lack of interest?
Tribal art goes back for hundreds of years and has a history which goes with it, a man is not allowed to wear a proper Scottish kilt unless he can prove that he has some Scottish heritage, so why can anyone wear a tribal tattoo without being a member or that clan or at least know the history behind it?
I’ve seen teenagers and young people looking through tattoo design flash books, you can see them looking at the tribal designs pages saying things like that looks cool or I want that down my leg without any regard for what the design means. a tribal tattoo needs to be chosen with relevance to the individual, if you don’t know what the design means, you could cause insult to others or you could even be sending the wrong message about yourself.
On the whole these types of tattoos are a sense of belonging to a clan or a group, if you wear these designs with the pride they deserve, you will be a part of that clan in mind and spirit.
When you decide to have a tribal design inked on your body, be sure to use a reputable tattoo parlor, due to the large blocks of black ink, any infection or serious scabbing of the skin can lead to a loss of part of the design and a lot of pain.
