Schoolboy Ollie Brake was so impressed when he saw the last Vulcan bomber in action he decided to sell all of his toys to help keep it flying.

Seven-year-old Ollie, from Lockside, Pewsham, has been obsessed with aeroplanes since he first went to the Royal International Air Tattoo, at Fairford, two years ago.

he has been to air shows all around the area in recent months, including Kemble and Yeovilton, as well as back to Fairford for a third time last weekend.

Now the Derry Hill School pupil has decided he wants to help Vulcan to the Sky, the charity which keeps his favourite plane flying, by holding a garden sale.

Ollie’s grandmother Averil Davis said: “It was all his idea, he just said ‘Why don’t we raise some money for the Vulcan, Nan?’ “He said he had loads of old toys he wouldn’t be using any more, and I had lots of books, so we decided to set up the sale.”

so Ollie, who lives in Chippenham with mum Sara and dad Paul, went home that night and started pricing up his old toys. His family contacted the charity, which has sent them a banner and merchandise to sell.

Specsavers in Chippenham, where Ollie’s mum works, have also offered to match whatever he makes and donate it.

Ollie, who wants to join the RAF when he gets older, said: “I love aeroplanes, especially the Vulcan and the Red Arrows, they are my favourites. the noise the Vulcan makes is amazing when it powers up.”

the sale is takes place over the weekend of August 27 and 28 at 18 Lansdowne Crescent West, Derry Hill. If you would like to help by donating items to sell, call (01249) 814411.
