TATTOOS are designed to last for life – but nothing endures that long in Hollywood. Film stars such as Megan Fox, the Transformers actress, who helped to make them fashionable are now leading a backlash against "body art".
Fox is undergoing painful treatment to remove a portrait of Marilyn Monroe from her arm. the 25-year-old actress told an Italian magazine last week that the Monroe portrait was being erased because it got in the way of her work. "It’s too negative," she said.
Statistics suggest Fox is far from alone. according to a Harris poll, the number of tattooed Americans, which was below 10 per cent until 1990, soared to 16 per cent in 2003 but fell back to 14 per cent in 2008.
Since then the number of US tattoo parlours has fallen by 10 per cent and laser removal treatments are booming, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
"not everyone is erasing them entirely – just off the hands, arms and faces, which might get in the way of the next job," the academy said last week.
While elaborate designs may still be popular in jails, Silicon Valley and other youth-oriented centres of enterprise, elsewhere they are being removed.
"Starbucks may have accepted them but other retailers are turning away jobseekers because their tattoos may unsettle older shoppers," said the Texas Chamber of Commerce.
Body art may also unsettle jurors: last year John Ditullio, once a leading member of Florida’s neo-nazi movement, asked a judge to employ a make-up artist to cover the swastika on his neck during his murder trail. he was still found guilty.
Police officers in Phoenix, Arizona, have been ordered to cover up all tattoos. "we are professional and don’t want to give anyone a reason to mistrust us," said the Phoenix force, which has also banned pierced tongues.
Names of loved ones have always been most vulnerable to change. when Johnny Depp broke up with fellow actor Winona Ryder, he changed the inked name to "Wino Forever’.
Eva Longoria, the Desperate Housewives actress, is undergoing laser treatment to erase the number nine from the back of her neck – it represented her former husband’s number in the San Antonio Spurs basketball team.
The young may also be growing tired of tattoos: Kelly Osbourne, the daughter of rock star Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon, said she got tattooed as "a way of self-harming to upset my mum and dad".
Aged 26, she no longer feels the need to rebel and is having many of them erased.
A tattooist has pledged to make his business bigger and better after his new studio was repeatedly rammed by a van.
The attack at Studio 244 tattoo parlour in Rochdale was captured by a CCTV camera and caused damage estimated at around £50,000.
The shocking footage shows a white LDV van reverse at speed three times into the shop front.
Devastated owner John Hurn, 29, believes the attack was carried out by thugs who had threatened him weeks earlier.
Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses. the shop, on Oldham Road, has been left in ruins.
Mr Hurn, from Freehold, Rochdale, opened the studio with the help of his sister Kimberley Davies six weeks ago.
Both had completed formal tattoo training courses.
Mr Hurn said: “I am absolutely devastated. I just had to sit down when I saw the shop and could not stop shaking. the whole place has just been annihilated.
“All the tools are ruined, the gas pipes, the interior – everything. This was my livelihood.
“We had only been open three weeks when someone visited me and told me I was going to be fire-bombed if I did not close, but would not tell me why.
“I hadn’t heard anything since so I just thought it was rubbish.”
Ram raiders wreck tattoo artist’s studio
The CCTV footage, recorded at around 3am on July 16, shows the van turn left off Oldham Road into a side street.
It then reverses at speed into the shop before driving off. Dust from the wreckage of the studio is captured on the film.
Mr Hurn said he was determined to rebuild the business.
“My sister has spent a lot of money on this business and showed absolute faith in me,” he added. “It is devastating for us both. I have only been open a month and a half and the business had really just started to take off.
“I was on benefits without a job but trained up and set up my own business. Now this has happened and it just makes you think ‘what’s the point?’
“But we are going to come back bigger and better. we are not going to let them win.”
The van was later found abandoned on Charter Street.
Pc Andrew Marsh said: “This was a deliberate and malicious attack on a local, independent business and I am keen to hear from anyone who has information about the person responsible.
“Did anyone hear the commotion or see the van being abandoned? Perhaps you have heard someone talking about it. if so, please get in touch.”

At the time of our birth, our parents assigned a name for us for recognition and identification that we will be carrying for the rest of our life. This will identify us from the thousands and thousands of people around us. sometimes our parents would name us after our grandparents or simply a name that they really loved.
These names go beyond even after birth for there are some people that would get a tattoo of their own names and most of the time other people’s name for those who mean so much to them, such as; husband, wife, daughter, son, parents, best friend, and even a pet’s name.
Just like a personal name, tattoo name will be inked on your skin for a lifetime that will forever remind you of the bearer of that name. People do this to honor a loved one or to make them reminded them of that love one; and most of the times they call it a tribute.
It may sound that name tattoo designs are commonly done when a special someone passed away, but on the brighter side of it there are also many people who get a name inked on their skin, especially for those couples who are very much in love. These couples would get a name tattoo of their lover and vice versa to show their love for each other beyond the conventional way.
While couples are very much in love and excited of getting a name tattoo of their lover, there are a few individuals who may be hesitant in getting a name tattoo of their lover because of the idea that their relationship with that person (even if you are married) may not last forever unlike a tattoo inked on their skin. A lasting relationship or not, being tattooed with the name of your lover should be a decision for you to make.
Name tattoo designs can sound so simple since you already have an idea of the name you would like to have. This can be true, but you can play with name tattoo designs and be more creative than simply inking a name on your skin.
You already have a name in mind; now think of the font for your chosen name. there are many kinds of fonts to choose from and you would definitely want an easy to read font, but at the same stylish and artistic.
Once you have chosen a font you can go from a simple design or even add a little more graphics like a special symbol that can also represent the bearer of the name.
When you get all the details ready, you can go and rush to your tattoo artist get your very own name tattoo design.

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, take the time to talk with your tattoo artist. During the conversation, make sure to have a list of questions that you would like answered prior to moving forward with your decision. below are a few questions that you should consider asking:
How long have you been in business? This is important in determining how professional the work will be and what type of reputation the business has. if the tattoo studio is a member of the Better Business Bureau, check out their record to see about any complaints that have been initiated within the previous 36 months.
What are your qualifications? Before you see a doctor, isn’t it important to know that they are qualified? Absolutely. the same is true with a tattoo artist. even though the two professions are completely different, there are similarities in that both involve the use of needles and both professionals must be knowledgeable in their approach at sterilizing their equipment. an individual’s qualifications and training history will tell you a lot about what to expect.
Do you guarantee your work? if the final image isn’t exactly as you had hoped for, will it be fixed at no charge or what is the process if you are unhappy with the tattoo? Is there any type of refund policy? these are all important in determining service after the sale.
Can I see samples of your work or do you have references? if you want to know about the quality of work, you should always ask for references in any business.
How much will this cost? Before agreeing to a specific tattoo design, you will want to know the full cost involved. Large tattoos can be very costly, but even the smallest design can be expensive if you are on a budget. do yourself a favor and avoid any surprises – ask about the costs upfront.
How many tattoos have you done? This will give you a good indication of the experience level and how much design work the artist has done.
What is the likelihood of an infection and how may I prevent one from occurring? every good tattoo artist can provide this information. He/she should be able to tell you what to do to lessen the likelihood of an infection and what to do if you suspect that one may be developing.
Is there anyone who should not get a tattoo, such as someone with certain medical conditions? This is important, especially if you are asking because you have a condition that concerns you. Individuals with thin blood, for instance, may be more cautious about anything that involves breaking the skin or needles. the same is true of individuals with other conditions, which should be addressed prior to agreeing to be tattooed.
If I have a fear of needles, is there any way to help me through the process of getting a tattoo? Don’t feel bad if this is you. A lot of people have a fear of needles, which is a device used in creating tattoos. if you are afraid, it never hurts to explain this to the tattoo artist beforehand so that he/she can try to take extra steps to make you feel at ease or to make the experience a less painful one for you.
How long will the tattooing process take? This is important, especially if you are getting a tattoo on your lunch break. all kidding aside, you will want to know how long to expect the process to take so that you can plan the rest of your day accordingly.

Eric Maynor tweeted the entire way through his tattoo.
No better way to spend 12 or 14 hours.
Mind you, this was not just another tattoo. the Thunder guard added to his heavily tattooed right arm by having the entire thing inked Monday afternoon. on a background of clouds that run shoulder to wrist, there is a dove, a basketball with a crown, a silhouette of the three crucifixion crosses, another dove and another cross.
Maynor’s post on Twitter: “im just getting the whole sleeve right now.”
Teammate James Harden tweeted a bit later that he was there watching Maynor get inked.
“Should I get my 1st tat?” he asked.
Maynor responded, “yessssssir.”
Seems like it’s only a matter of time. Getting a tattoo is catching on the Thunder like runny noses at a daycare.
It wasn’t that long ago that few players on this team had a visible tattoo. when the franchise arrived in town talking about how it would play different, act different, be different, you believed it even more because they looked different than most other NBA teams.
About the only reason the Thunder even registered on the tattoo radar was Robert Swift. Even though Chris Wilcox and a couple others had tattoos, Swift had more skin that was tattooed than skin that wasn’t. he had ink everywhere — and we do mean everywhere. our man Darnell Mayberry was talking to Swift about his tattoos once when the big man pulled down his lower lip. there on the inside of his lip were the words “NO FEAR”.
Still, Swift was something of an afterthought when he was here. the guys who played, who ran around and made a difference were ink-free.
Then, the Thunder went out and traded for Thabo Sefolosha. the defensive wiz had a big tattoo on his left bicep — “The Game Chose Me,” it reads — but hey, Thabo is from Switzerland. different strokes for different folks.
Then came Maynor and Daequan Cook and their tattoos.
The truth is, this bunch has more ink than most folks know.
One day sitting courtside several hours before a game, I happened to glance up from my laptop as Kevin Durant was getting in his pregame work. the Thunder superstar had worked up quite a sweat, and he grabbed the bottom of his jersey, lifted it to his face and dried his sweat.
He also revealed a tattoo-covered torso.
Now, I have to admit, I was so surprised that Durant had all those tattoos that I didn’t process what they were. I didn’t even see how many there were. Might’ve been three. Might’ve been five. I’m not sure.
Thing is, a guy that everyone assumes has no ink has gotten needled often.
So, what is Oklahoma City to make of all this body art on its beloved Thunder?
This is a state, after all, where it was illegal to get a tattoo until five years ago. This might not be the least-tattooed state in the union, but it’s safe to say plenty of Oklahomans believe slinging ink sounds like a mess instead of a fun way to spend an afternoon.
You may not like these guys’ tattoos, but they do. they are tweeting about them. they are posting pictures of them.
But really, tattooed or not tattooed, what does it matter? Does it change the way you feel about K.D.’s jumper? Does it have an impact on your opinion of Perk’s defense? Does it change the fact that all of these guys have been fantastic on the court and every bit as good off of it?
These guys have avoided trouble, save Nate Robinson and his tiny bladder. they haven’t filled the police blotter or dominated the headlines with tomfoolery. they haven’t embarrassed themselves, their team or this city.
Tattoos do not bad guys make.
These are the same players that Oklahoma City has come to love. They’re just a little more colorful than they used to be.

When I was a little girl I used to look at my dad’s arms and the pictures he had painted on them. this was a normal thing for me, I thought that all dads had them, as most of the men who came to our house had their arms decorated in the same way. These picture were of course tattoos, not temporary tattoos but two ugly permanent ones.
I thought they were ugly and uninteresting, but of course I never said. then when my own daughter was about 16, tattoos came into my life again.
It was a very hot summer in Valencia, where we had a flat, she hates the heat so normally loved to go swimming. We had bought her a new bikini but I couldn’t understand why she didn’t want togo. anyway to cut a long story short she never wore that new bikini.
Back in Valencia for the new Year she was bending down, when I suddenly saw a tattoo on her back, small as it was it was not a temporary tattoo. A butterfly. I hit the roof. How could a daughter of mine with such an education resort to this? I was extremely upset and called her everything.
I really wish that that tattoo artist in Surrey had asked for her age, in fact she wasn’t 18 or failing this. Why hadn’t he encouraged her to have a temporary tattoo?
Well, it all began then, little by little she started have more and more. A teenage craze my friends would say. If only I thought, every time I saw her she seemed to have more. Some of them aren’t too bad, but I really hope that she never regrets not having used removable tattoos. She is now 26 and if she were earning more, I’m sure she would have more tattoos. this is dedicated to her, she’s an adult and has the right to do what she wants with her own body, but think and why not use temporary tattoos in the future….
Although there are many advantages in using removable tattoos. there are some disadvantages too.
These tattoos will fade or can be cleaned off whereas, permanent ones have to be removed surgically or by laser, leaving ugly scars.
Before using any form of temporary tattoos you need to have a skin test down at least a week before. If you have any allergic reaction then do not have one, or you could have a test using a different type of tattoo ink.
Never have temporary tattoos applied by someone on a street stall in a market as you cannot be sure what products they are using and your temporary tattoos could land up being there for life but not as a beautiful piece of art but as scars.
