Very often people who are considering getting a tattoo want to know which part of the body hurts the most to get a tattoo and which part hurts the least. Seems like a perfectly normal question but one that is unfortunately difficult to answer because every person is different and so is their pain threshold.
Most agree that the arm is the absolute easiest place to get a tattoo. Basically places that contain the most muscle will absorb the needle better and as a result will be the places which will hurt the least. The places that hurt more than usual are areas of either high nerve concentration, erogenous zones like inner thigh or areas right over bone like the ankle.
Certain areas that hurt a lot like the ribcage usually are chosen by those with more experience, but if it’s your first tattoo and you are nervous stick to the arm or leg. Tattoos are one of those things that you should try really hard not to concentrate on where tattoos hurt the most or the least but rather look ahead and imagine how beautiful the art work will look once it is complete.
Where a tattoo will hurt the least is relative to several factors but the less sensitive the skin is, the less a tattoo should hurt. when most people try to describe to another person what getting a tattoo feels like they say it is more irritating than anything else because of the consistent pin pricks. Those experienced in the tattoo industry will say that the more exposed the area of the body is to outside elements, the tougher the skin is and therefore the tattoo will hurt less in those areas.
Sometimes the amount of pain that you will experience while getting your tattoo will depend on the artist. Some are heavy handed which will make the pain more intense but others are so graceful when giving a tattoo that you walk away thinking you went for a walk in the park.
What will hurt one person can be simply annoying to someone else. How much a tattoo hurts is dependent on your individual tolerance for pain. There are areas more sensitive than others that are the same for everybody. Generally the ‘meatier’ the area the less the tattoo will hurt. Areas such as the back and outside parts of the arm, and tend to hurt less than others.
Many have said that the pain involved in getting a tattoo is similar to that of bad sunburn, being stung several times by bees, a bad scrape, but remember that the pain does not last very long at all. How you feel physically will determine how well you handle the tattooing process. if you are not your normal 100% you will feel more discomfort during the tattooing process.
If you are having a bad mental day then it is best to hold off because if you are distracted or aggravated it is likely going to really tick you off once the tattoo gets started. if you are really concerned with pain but want to get a tattoo then ask your artist which places hurt the least when getting a tat. maybe you will decide to start off somewhere else and get a small one to test it out.
